Welcome to Somatic Therapy Maui

I believe you deserve to be happy, fulfilled, and at peace with yourself and your surroundings.

I consider a successful therapeutic approach to be a system that considers you as a whole. Addressing and taking care of the symptoms is important; however, to successfully treat our difficulties we have to identify and heal its roots. By working on the roots of your challenges and difficulties, we will strengthen your system beginning with the foundation, resulting in sustainable positive changes in your life.

I facilitate the therapeutic process with gentleness and care, always moving at your pace and according to your needs. The methods I provide bring clarity into your life and empower you to make positive changes. From my own path towards healing, I know that walking this journey alone is not easy. I am here to open a non-judgmental space for you to discover your authentic self and to gain essential tools that will help you on your journey.

My sessions are conducted online via Zoom.

Somatic Experiencing

Working with Trauma, PTSD, and stress-related issues

Somatic Experiencing® (SE) is a gentle body awareness methodology that helps heal physical and emotional trauma, overwhelming emotions, and other stress-related conditions.

The SE method offers a framework that works directly with the nervous system; it identifies where a person is "stuck", either in the fight, flight, or freeze responses. SE provides clinical tools to reduce and resolve the symptoms and conditions that arise as a result of stress and trauma, bringing you back into balance. The SE approach strengthens the system and releases shock, which is key to transforming trauma symptoms, emotional wounds, and early developmental maladaptation.

SE makes the connection between body and mind, including all of your being and not solely the intellect. During sessions, I will guide you through the tracking of your system by giving importance to bodily sensations, images, thoughts, and feelings. By creating a dialogue between intellect and body, space is created for organic and natural healing to occur.

Somatic Experiencing® is the life’s work of Dr. Peter Levine, resulting from his multidisciplinary study of stress physiology, psychology, biology, neuroscience, indigenous healing practices, and medical biophysics, together with over 45 years of successful clinical application.

I am approved to give sessions at all levels of the Somatic Experiencing® training.

Psychodynamic Approach

The root of our difficulties lies in our unconscious

A psychodynamic approach in therapy focuses on the psychological roots of emotional suffering. By examining your childhood pains and your reaction to those pains we will have a better understanding as to what isn’t working in your life and where you find yourself currently stuck.

During sessions we will visit your past in order to find the root causes of your emotional pain which you are experiencing in the present moment. By doing so, we will bring the unconscious up to your conscious awareness, where the pain can be felt and let go of. This process allows for the creation of new, healthier responses to all that life brings.

Mindfulness

Connecting to the present moment

Mindfulness is our basic ability to be present in the here and now. Even though mindfulness is something we all possess, it is more available to us if we practice it on a daily basis. Whenever we bring awareness to our direct experience through observing our thoughts, sensations, and emotions, or by using our senses, we are being mindful.

Research shows that by practicing mindfulness we strengthen our emotional regulation abilities and remodel our brain’s structure. Unfortunately, trauma and stress strip us from our mindfulness abilities, and may even create an aversion to being present. During sessions we will practice specific mindfulness techniques which will help you to feel safe and regulated and move you back to the present moment.
